Conceived and organized by Accademia Teatro alla Scala in collaboration with the MIP Politecnico di Milano  Graduate School of Business and the Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa, the Master in Performing Arts Management promotes stage arts as a fundamental social, political and economic asset, and live  performances as a means for conserving and passing on to future generations a people’s cultural heritage and identity. The Master’s program is designed to prepare global professionals who can bring a solid cultural and artistic background coupled with economic and managerial skills to the production of stage performances, with a particular focus on Europe, North America and emerging markets.

Centering the development of each individual student, the curriculum features an organically structured set of complementary and interdependent modules and activities.

Uniqueness

The Accademia has developed a teaching method of the highest level. Students are offered the only opportunity to live to 360 ° the dynamics of the Teatro alla Scala, learning directly from the professionals who work there.

Global Network

Collaboration between the Accademia, MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business and the Piccolo Teatro di Milano puts students in an international network of contacts with theaters, festivals and show institutions. The Master also allows you to analyze all aspects of the show live through testimonials, seminars, meetings and many other dynamics. The teaching staff includes professionals from Opera Europa, Metropolitan Opera House, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, Opera de Rennes, Berliner Philharmoniker, Hong Kong Arts Festival, DeVos Institute and WolfBrown.

The teaching approach helps to have a direct contact with the world of work. The pride of the Master is the internship, which takes place at the most important Italian and foreign institutions operating in the sector.

Tutoring

The staff of Master ensures a constant support to the students, especially in view of the comparison with the way of work.

  • 20 months: 8 months in class, attendance 5 days per week, 6 hours a day + 3 to 6 months internship in a qualified performing arts institution in Italy or abroad + 6 months project work

  • To live the uniqueness of Italian cultural traditions and the extraordinary experience of the city of Milan;
  • To learn by doing with field projects and internships at acclaimed Italian and international institutions.

The Master’s programme is designed to prepare global professionals who can bring a solid cultural and artistic background coupled with economic and managerial skills to the production of stage performances, with a particular focus on Europe, North America and emerging markets.

PROGRAMME

Students will spend 8 months in Milan followed by a 3 to 6 months internship in a qualified performing arts institution in Italy or abroad. Then, they will execute and discuss a project work.

Who is eligible for the MPAM Programme?
  • Candidates with a B.A. or equivalent who wish to pursue a career in the performing arts or cultural sector;
  • Candidates with formal music, arts, or dance education who wish to acquire general knowledge of international cultural policies and develop their management and organizational skills;
  • Candidates without a formal degree who have a minimum of 3 to 5 years working experience in any field and wish to pursue a career change. General knowledge of the non-profit sector would be advantageous.

The English knowledge at an upper intermediate level is highly recommended.

How long is the MPAM programme?

The programme is 20 months long.

In what language is the programme taught?

The programme is almost entirely taught in English. During italian lessons a simultaneous translation is provided.

Do I need to speak Italian?

A fair knowledge of Italian is required. English and Italian preparatory courses will be available on request.

How many students are on the programme?

The average class size is around thirty-five students.

Is there an age limit for the programme?

The age limit for admission to the Master’s programme is 35 years. Applications that do not comply with this limit age will be evaluated individually.

ADMISSIONS

Status of applications: applications are open

Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Since the number of seats in class is limited, candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Should the course become fully subscribed before the deadline dates, applications will close earlier.

Non-EU students are encouraged to apply at least three months before the start of the programme in order to allow enough time for the Declaration of Value (DOV) procedure for Italy and establishment of the student

The master is targeting junior profiles with little or no work experience.

The ideal candidate:

  • Candidates with a B.A. or equivalent who wish to pursue a career in the performing arts or cultural sector.
  • Candidates with formal music, arts, or dance education who wish to acquire general knowledge of international cultural policies and develop their management and organizational skills.
  • Candidates without a formal degree who have a minimum of 3 to 5 years working experience in any field and wish to pursue a career change. General knowledge of the non-profit sector would be advantageous.

The programme costs €18,300. These costs cover the entire length of the programme, although they do not include living and travel expenses.

MAECI

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) offers a maximum of 9 stipends of 900€ per months, for six months, from January 2022 to June 2022 (for a total of 5.400 euros each) which will be awarded to 9 (nine) International students.
